A fuel card's discount looks small per gallon, but you're buying a lot of gallons. This works out what a per-gallon discount is actually worth to you over a year, so you can judge whether a card is worth signing up for.

FAQ
How do fuel card discounts actually work?
The card network pre-negotiates volume pricing with truck stop chains, then passes part of that discount to you at the pump. The discount isn't fixed — it varies stop to stop and moves with wholesale fuel prices, so the same card might save you $0.15 at one location and $0.60 at another.
Fuel card vs. a discount app — what's the difference?
Traditional fuel cards settle like a fleet card — you're approved with a credit check and billed on a cycle. App-based discounts like Mudflap work per transaction against your own bank account, no card and no credit check required, which makes them easier to get approved for as a new owner-operator.
Do fuel card discounts beat loyalty points programs?
For most owner-operators burning 1,000+ gallons a month, yes — a flat per-gallon discount paid at the pump almost always beats accumulating loyalty points redeemable later, because the savings compound every fill-up instead of sitting in a points balance you have to remember to redeem.
